Kitchen Table Community Offerings:

During the Winter season, we take an intentional hiatus beginning at the Winter Solstice and ending at the Spring Equinox. While on hiatus we spend time resting, daydreaming as a form of resistance, and planning for a sustainable future.

Community Call-In is a space we have designated to welcome in Spring. During the space in time that typically overlaps with Black History Month and Women’s History Month, we are holding intentional space to call in our community with love, to learn together and break down barriers to building community sovereignty and a sustainable future.

Description of Offerings:
Detroit to Palestine: On Love, Liberation, and Land Back  February 13th, 2024 l 6-7:30pm Virtual 

Education on the connections between our lives in Detroit and those living under oppressive systems across the globe. Discussion time on community stability and our roles as land cultivators, creatives, and abolitionists in Detroit.


I’m Queer, My Dear: Queer & Black in Land-Centered Movement  February 29th, 2024 l 6-7:30pm Virtual 
Education on how Queer Black Abolitionists and Land Cultivators have shaped the world and the future. Discussion time addressing how homophobia and transphobia in the Black Community disrupt strategic organizing and community resilience.

Diamonds and Olive Trees: Ecofeminism, Ecocide, and The End of an Empire March 12th, 2024 l 6-7:30pm Virtual 

Education on Ecocide, Ecofeminism and destruction of natural resources for colonial gain. Discussion on our allegiance to and reliance on empires and systems that cause our community harm.

Spring Equinox Biochar Burn: March 28th, 2024 11am-4pm In Person @ The Farm

Join us at Fennigan’s Farms for our yearly Spring Equinox Biochar Burn. We will be hosting a swap for Seeds, Artwork, Books and Garden/Farm Resources (Seed trays, gardening tools, small equipment, etc…) Start off the new year around the fire with us. Learn how to make biochar for your garden, join the swap, or just come enjoy time with community! RSVP and list food allergies, please.

We offer 4 seasonal learning spaces, to guide you throughout the growing season. Beginning with seed starting and garden set up, we transition into the harvest season with maintenance and ecosystem harmony.


Volume 1: Seed Starting and Bed Set-up Spring

Spring is here! Let’s get growing. In Seed Starting and Bed Set-up we discuss:

  • Seed germination and seedling care

  • Transplant techniques

  • The basics of setting up your raised bed garden or grow bag

  • Compost and natural fertilizer.

 

vOLUME 2: Garden Ecology and Critter Community Summer

We all live in this ecosystem. When starting a new grow space, it’s important to work in harmony with all the critters that live in the space. In Garden Ecology and Critter Community we discuss:

  • Healthy ways your garden can add to your ecosystem

  • How to redirect critter traffic

  • How to attract pollinators

  • Natural ways to re-direct mosquitoes

 

Volume 3: Celebrating Your Harvest and Food Storage techniques fALL

The freedom that comes with growing your own food is unmatched. Celebrate your harvest by learning techniques to preserve and cook it. In Celebrating Your Harvest and Food Storage Techniques we learn about:

  • Washing and storing your harvest

  • Beginner Canning

  • Freezing and Blanching

  • Drying

  • We also share family favorite recipes to try with your garden goodies.

 

Volume 4: Bed Weatherization and Winter Garden Rest Winter

Get ready for the winter with Bed Weatherization and Winter Garden Rest. We discuss:

  • How to rest your beds

  • Plant cold-weather crops for the winter

  • Ways to weatherize your beds

  • Tips for how to grow year-round in any climate
